RESPONSE #2164 (TFWS)............................................................................................. “SANCTUARY”
Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true.  With
thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for you.

**CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader:   Our Lord Jesus spoke to the storm, saying “Peace, be still.”

People:  As we gather in worship, Jesus speaks to our hearts and spirits

               now, saying “Peace, be still.”

Leader:   As we rest in your presence, Lord, may all our storms grow quiet

               within us.

People:  Bring rest to our hearts, O Lord; may we feel like a leaf after a

storm, when the wind is still.

ALL:      May we know both your presence and your peace; may you receive

both our praise and our thanksgiving.

**HYMN #130 (UMH)...................................................................... “God Will Take Care of You”

CALL TO CONFESSION

The God revealed to us in the pages of scripture is a welcoming and inclusive God who

directs us to love one another.  We seek to remove the barriers that keep us from that love.

Come now to confess all that separates us from others and from God by joining me in

praying the Prayer of Confession printed in your bulletin:

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (IN UNISON)

Gracious and loving God, open our hearts so we are able to admit to you the fullness

of our lives – that which is beautiful and good, and that which is hurtful and hateful.

We ask for your help, your power, your Spirit, so we can change our lives and grow

more each day into the image of Jesus.  We confess we fear what is different.  We

confess that it’s easier to lock the doors of our community than to receive those who

don’t look like we look, love like we love, or vote the way we vote.  We confess we

have not lived your call to share an abundant life and unconditional love.  We believe

you have the power to turn us around to a more inclusive way of living, so we ask you

to do that.  We ask you to give us the courage to change.  We ask you to give us the

energy, intelligence, imagination and love to be your people in all we say and do.

Amen.

SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION

WORDS OF PARDON AND ASSURANCE

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.  He will not

always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve

or repay us according to our iniquities.  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so

great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he

removed our transgressions from us.  Jesus died for our sins.  We are forgiven.  Feel that

forgiveness in your heart.  Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER (IN UNISON)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be

done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our

but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

Amen.
