People:     We seek God’s wisdom to guide us and show us how to live.

Leader:      Are you ready to follow when God’s wisdom leads down unexpected paths?

People:     We will trust, and we will follow wherever God’s wisdom leads us.

CELEBRATION OF HOLY BAPTISM, RICHARD EVERETT FUNKE (PAGE 5 OF BULLETIN)

CALL TO CONFESSION

So many choices, and we choose poorly; so many paths to take, and we make wrong turns;

so much good we could do, and we sometimes do harm.  Let us confess our sins to our

God, who is our help and hope.  Let us pray…

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (IN UNISON)

Gracious God, we come before you today knowing that we often fall short of your call

to love one another well.  We allow ourselves to be blinded by wealth and power.  We

ignore those around us who suffer injustice, poverty, and rejection.  We tune out the

cries of the poor and those on the edges of our communities.  Help us to see your great

generosity, hear your word of mercy, and feel your great love for all who need your

redemptive grace.  Strengthen us to reach out in service to those who are in need.  Make

us aware of those outside our own communities, that we may see them as your precious

children and serve them in humility and joy.  May we continue to grow in grace as we

learn how to serve you in the name of the great Servant, Jesus Christ.  AMEN.

SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION

WORDS OF PARDON AND ASSURANCE

Leader:      Say it.  Shout it.  Sing it!  Our God comes with justice, not judgment; with

hope, not a heavy hand; with grace, not grudges.  This is the good news of

                  God’s love!

People:     We will not be afraid to tell anyone, and everyone, of our God who is

rich in mercy, who sets us free, who watches over us.  Thanks be to

                  God, we are forgiven!  AMEN.

**RESPONSE #2119 (TFWS)............................................................. “WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS”

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is peace; where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is

love. There is comfort in life’s darkest hour; there is light and life, there is help and

power in the Spirit, in the Spirit of the Lord.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be

but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

AMEN.
