RESPONSE #2071 (TFWS)................................................................ “JESUS,
NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES”
Jesus, name above all names, beautiful Savior, glorious Lord. Emmanuel, God is with
us, blessed
Redeemer, living Word.
Leader: Siblings in Christ, we come to worship today with expectations: how we expect
to feel, what we expect to experience, songs we expect to sing, or prayers we expect
to pray. We find comfort in our traditions.
People: We come to worship, confident that God will
meet us here.
Leader: But sometimes our prayers, scriptures, hymns, and liturgies become rote.
Remember
your wonder at our awesome God.
People: We come to worship, remembering the God
of wonders.
Leader: We may meet God in a familiar voice speaking a challenging word, in a song we
love that touches our hearts, in a prayer that we receive in a new way. Because God
is here, moving and working among
us.
People: We come to worship, expecting God to be
faithful as God always is.
Leader: Children of God, come! Let us worship, ready to embrace God’s Word already at
work among us, even when we are challenged to recognize God in the familiar and
unfamiliar alike.
All: We
come to worship, expecting God to meet us here. Thank be to God! AMEN.
**HYMN #158 (UMH)........................................................................... “COME,
CHRISTIANS, JOIN TO SING”
Dear God, in a cynical and despairing world, give us a quietly prophetic voice to proclaim
your mercy. In a violent and angry world, give us the bravery to live out your peace. In a
dismissive and disinterested world, give us the will to be compassionate. In a lonely and
inhospitable world, aid us in sharing your love. In a grieving and weeping world, help us to
share the hope of the Gospel. And may our lives be channels of your restoring grace
wherever we may go. AMEN.
**RESPONSE #204 (UMH)................................................................................... “EMMANUEL,
EMMANUEL”
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, his name is called Emmanuel. God with us, revealed in us, his
name is called Emmanuel.

THANKSGIVING (UMH PAGE 15)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
AMEN.
