OPENING

TIME OF CENTERING PRAYER

RESPONSE #2164 (TFWS)...................................................................................................... “SANCTUARY”
Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true.  With
thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for you.

**CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:      We gather to listen to the voice of Jesus say, “Come, follow me!”  But

will you follow when Jesus also calls you to release the hold of all you

                  possess?

People:     We want to follow Jesus anywhere he leads, and we can with God’s

                  help.

Leader:      We gather to remember all that God has taught us. But what about when

we must put what we learn from God into action?

People:     We want to put our faith into action, and we can with God’s help.

Leader:      We gather to live into God’s abundance, recognizing the riches of the

prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness that surround us. But what

about when the world tempts us back into fear?

People:     We want to turn away from fear and choose God’s abundance, and

                  we can with God’s help.

Leader:      Following Jesus means sharing in God’s abundant gifts together. But

will you keep shining when others try to pull you astray, putting other

pursuits before the pursuit of God?

All:            With God’s help, we will resist the pull of wealth and fear to pursue

God’s way of love, abundance, and flourishing.  AMEN.

**HYMN #399 (UMH)................................................................................... “TAKE MY LIFE, AND LET IT BE”

CALL TO CONFESSION

Let us willingly embrace that which we believe is true - we can come to the

seat of God’s grace, bringing our prayers of confession to the One who is

overflowing with mercy.  Join me as we pray together…

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (IN UNISON)

God of grace:  we offer you our lives.  We confess we are often stingy in

our gifts of time, of talents, of treasures.  We confess our addiction to the

drugs of consumerism and that, as your church, we have often fallen

headlong into the culture’s seduction.  Forgive us and free us to joyful

simplicity, that we may be signs of grace to your world.  AMEN.

SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION

WORDS OF PARDON AND ASSURANCE

Leader:      Hear the good news!  Because God loves us, we lack for nothing;

because God forgives us, we have everything we need; because God

surrounds us with siblings in Christ, we do not journey alone.

People:     Committing everything to God, trusting in the One who redeems

us, we decide to live as God's faithful and forgiven people.

Thanks be to God, we are forgiven!  AMEN.

**RESPONSE #2119 (TFWS)............................................................. “WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS”

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is peace; where the Spirit of the

Lord is, there is love. There is comfort in life’s darkest hour; there is light

and life, there is help and power in the Spirit, in the Spirit of the Lord.

THE LORD'S PRAYER (IN UNISON)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the
