OPENING
TIME
OF CENTERING PRAYER
Leader: Jesus
is in our midst. Jesus, our healer,
deliverer, and friend, is here.
People: We have heard so many good things about
him, but we long
to meet him, to encounter him
ourselves.
Leader: Call out to him, and do not be silent. Like Bartimaeus, shout to him and
do not allow anyone to silence
your voice. Cry out and tell Jesus what
you need!
People: Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on us! We need a touch from you!
Touch me; touch us in our
need, which we lift right now in our hearts!
Leader: In this time of worship, celebrate God’s
goodness! In this time of worship,
know
that Jesus knows your deepest needs.
All: Hallelujah,
Christ is here and Christ heals us. AMEN!
**HYMN #57 (UMH)................................................ “O
FOR A THOUSAND TONGUES TO SING” (VV. 1-3, 7)
When we cannot do it, God can! Anything and everything - our messes, the hurts we
inflict on others, the way we stand around when we could be helping - God can renew,
reshape, and restore us. That is how much God loves us and this is why God calls to
us to come and be healed. Join
me as we pray to our God, saying…
Lord of our lives, we want to be a church ever-reforming, yet we cling to comfortable
ways. We want to honor your “still speaking voice,” but are fearful of insights which
challenge our old assumptions. We want to live into Jesus’ dream of oneness but fail
to listen to voices of difference. Have mercy on us for the times we cling to what is
comfortable rather than what is right and good in your sight! We pray this in the
name of the one who challenged us to change, Jesus Christ. AMEN.
SILENT PRAYERS OF
CONFESSION
Leader: Take
heart, get up; Jesus is calling to us! We
trust in the one who has
guided
the church for two millennia. Through
Christ, God forgives us
our
failings, and continues to call us into a community of mutual love
and
forgiveness. In the name of Jesus
Christ, you are forgiven!
People: In
the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
Glory to God!
AMEN.

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS”
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is peace; where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is love. There is comfort in life’s darkest hour; there is light and life, there
is help and power in the Spirit, in the Spirit

PRAYER
CONCERNS/PASTORAL PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us
our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and
the glory, forever. AMEN.
I cast all my cares upon you, I lay all of my burdens down at your feet, and anytime
that I don't know what to do, I will cast all my cares
upon you.
